Tropical Cyclone Debbie has caused severe damage to the Proserpine Council Chambers on Main Street, with several parts of the building’s roof caved in and extensive water damage during the event.
Residents are advised the building is currently not accessible to the public, with extensive damage to the foyer and Customer Services area.
From Monday 3 April, Customer Services will be located at the Proserpine Library.
Some areas of the Proserpine Council Chamber building are safe, including the Disaster Coordination Centre, where staff have been working around the clock over the past week in partnership with Fire and Emergency Services personnel, the SES, Queensland Police, Ergon, Ambulance Services and the Australian Defense Force.
Most Council staff will be working from other locations around the region until the building is completely accessible and safe again.
The Cannonvale Library will remain closed until further notice, pending further assessment of the building.
The Bowen Council Chambers suffered some minor damage however staff will be able to access the building as normal from Monday 3 April.
