Whitsunday Regional Council will host a working bee and community open day at the former Hillside Haven Aged Care facility in Collinsville on Saturday.
Council has officially taken ownership of the property after their $150,000 offer was accepted by the receivers.
Mayor Andrew Willcox has already reopening the facility in its current form was not an option.
“The facility will not be going back to a high level aged care facility as that business model is obviously not sustainable.
“The way forward is not clear but we will continue our talks with the State and Federal governments and also consult with the Collinsville community regarding their needs.
“We invite the Collinsville community to come along for a few hours on Saturday and help out with the working bee and general clean-up or just come along for the barbecue and have a chat,” he said.
The working bee is from 8am-10am and would involve pressure cleaning of paved areas and a general clean-up of the interior of the building and boxing of office records left behind by the previous administration.
Following the clean-up a barbecue/sausage sizzle will kick off at 10am.
