Whitsunday Regional Council is seeking feedback on the Bushfire Management Plan for Dingo Beach and Hydeaway Bay, under public consultation until 7 December 2016.
Council’s Natural Resource Management team is working with Cape Gloucester Rural Fire Brigade volunteers to review and update the plan.
While a natural part of the Australian environment, bushfires have the potential to cause serious damage to people and property, and the draft Plan outlines how bushfire hazards will be managed on public land near residential areas.
Mayor Andrew Willcox is urging all residents in Dingo Beach and Hydeaway Bay to review the draft Plan and give Council their feedback.
“It is important to have these conversations now and be prepared for the next dry season, typically between June and November,” he said.
“Our trained and experienced rural fire brigade volunteers do a fantastic job assisting with bushfire mitigation and responses for their local communities.”
“The draft Plan will help guide management practices for the next ten years, define the procedures for hazard reduction burns and define the roles and responsibilities for fire management in the area.”
Residents in these areas can leave their feedback and complete a short survey online at the Your Say Whitsunday online consultation website, or talk directly with Council officers at a public display in Dingo Beach on Saturday 3 December.
The draft Plan and survey will be available for viewing online until 5pm Wednesday 7 December at http://yoursay.whitsundayrc.qld.gov.au
