Whitsunday Regional Council has met with key stakeholder groups in the Whitsunday Region to develop a plan for beautifying the main townships with new decorations this Christmas.
Mayor Andrew Willcox said preliminary meetings have been held between Council, representatives from the Whitsunday, Proserpine and Bowen Chambers of Commerce, Ergon, Tourism Bowen and the Department of Transport and Main Roads in a collaborative move to enhance the Christmas spirit across the region.
“This is the first time council has joined with other regional stakeholders to decorate our towns at this special time of year; and that is what our community deserves,” Cr Willcox said.
“While plans are still being put in place, each of the four main townships in Bowen, Collinsville, Proserpine and Airlie Beach can expect to see a large light up Christmas trees and fairy lights to decorate the main street,” he said.
“As we do each year, Council will also decorate the Customer Service Centres at Proserpine, Bowen and Collinsville and we hope that local business owners join in and decorate their shop fronts as well.
“Over the next few years we plan to expand on what we are able to deliver to our communities at Christmas time and I’m sure the end result will be worth waiting for."
Secretary of the Proserpine Chamber of Commerce Karen Vloedmans said that the Chamber was delighted to have worked with Council on town decorations this Christmas.
“Christmas is such a magical time of year, it will be wonderful to see the region looking festive,” Mrs Vloedmans said.
“We encourage business owners to also get into the spirit by decorating your businesses. To the members of the community, we thank you very much for choosing to shop locally this Christmas.”
President of Bowen Tourism and Business Jonathan Freeman said that it is great to see the entire region’s various community groups coming together with local Government to celebrate Christmas.
“It’s about sharing joyful times with family and friends, our fellow citizens and all our visitors to our beautiful, bountiful, and absolutely wonderful Whitsundays.”
Whitsunday Regional Council would like to thanks all stakeholders involved in delivering this project to the Whitsunday community.
