Whitsunday Regional Council today committed to submitting a detailed submission for Stage 1 of the Collinsville Showground Precinct Masterplan.
Mayor Andrew Willcox said council had been invited by the State Government to submit a detailed application for the Collinsville Showground Stage 1 upgrade as part of the Building Our Regions funding program.
“The Showground upgrade and RV facilities development was shortlisted under the Royalties for Resource Producing Communities Fund and council today committed to funding of $254,000 towards delivering Stage 1 of the project,” Cr Willcox said.
“If we are successful with the funding submission then the $508,000 upgrade will be a joint venture between council and state government with council delivering the project and committing to ongoing operation and maintenance of the infrastructure,” he said.
Cr Willcox praised the state government for their Building Our Regions Funding which allowed local government to partner with them to deliver better outcomes for regional communities.
“Stage 1 of the project will deliver an upgrade to the skate rink and will feature a refurbishment and upgrade of the RV Friendly Park area at the showgrounds.
“It also includes planning and design of the indoor multi-purpose sports complex to accommodate squash, indoor cricket and a meeting and canteen area, the planning and design of a compact grandstand abutting the main area and the installation of new fencing around the main arena.
“The Collinsville Showground Master Plan was developed by the Whitsunday Regional Council in 2013 with the aim of improving the future of social interaction and recreation in Collinsville.
