Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor Andrew Willcox continues to deliver on his election promises by giving residential ratepayers a choice for their preferred water billings options as part of his council’s 2016/17 Budget.
Cr Willcox said residents will be able to choose in September/October whether they remain under the current two-part tariff water billing system or opt-in to move to the allocation system.
“This council has listened to its residents by offering residential ratepayers this choice in water billing.
“Eligible property owners will receive an Opt-in Application Notice in the mail with copies also available at Council’s Customer Service Centres and website,” he said.
All residents who make the move will receive 350kl for six months from January to June 2017 at a charge of $425.
Following the initial six months, residents will then receive an annual allowance of 700kl per year at a charge of $850.
Residents will have the opportunity in March/April of each year to opt-out and revert back to the two-part tariff if they think that is more suitable to their requirements.
Further information and engagement about the two water pricing systems will be made available to the community prior to the opt-in period commencing.
