Airlie Beach – Heart of the Reef. A collaborative project between Whitsunday Regional Council and tourism organisation SKAL Whitsunday is set to deliver a bright new entry statement for Airlie Beach Main Street.
Construction is expected to start next month on an entry statement sign and landscaping on the retaining wall at the Airlie Crescent roundabout.
The entry statement will boast significant landscaping with established and low maintenance plants that represent the region and the reef and the sign “Airlie Beach, Heart of the Reef” will be set against marine blue tiles with the background lit at night to deliver a more spectacular after dark realm.
Mayor Andrew Willcox said entrance statements highlighted the individual nature of each town with the Collinsville and Proserpine projects already completed.
“We are very excited with the proposed entry statement that SKAL Whitsunday has designed and are confident it will add another dimension to the already vibrant Airlie Beach precinct.
“Distinctive and attractive entry statements do more than just define a region or town, they can grow tourism, attract investment and even become a destination on their own right thanks to the power of social media,” he said.
Mayor Willcox said council and SKAL Whitsunday recognised that entry signs help showcase the region, convey the vibrancy of the local culture and maintain a strong harmony with the surrounding environment.
Proserpine's entry statements were located on the Bruce Highway, north and south of the town, and were led by the Proserpine Chamber of Commerce and the entry statements and Pit Pony Statue in Collinsville have already attracted national attention.
