Whitsunday Regional Council is calling for expressions of interest (EOI) on the 2.1hectare prime parcel of land located on Waterson Way right in the heart of Airlie Beach.
Mayor Andrew Willcox said the new council would be proactive in exploring and facilitating all options with regard to attracting vital investment to the region.
“Council is taking a proactive approach to taking the Waterson Way land out to expressions of interest and is open minded to options and opportunities which may arise from the new tender process to deliver the best possible outcome for the Whitsundays Region.
“The site is strategically placed near Airlie Beach Main Street to significantly contribute to the public amenity and aesthetics of Airlie Beach.
The dream outcome would be a mixture of business, accommodation and entertainment activities that complements the eclectic mix that makes Airlie Beach Main Street such a hub,” he said.
Mayor Willcox said council would be on the front foot to ensure the development community gets the message that the Whitsunday region welcomes investment.
“Attracting the right investor and ensuring that any proposed project will happen in the short term is a priority of council as our region seeks major economic stimulus and job creation opportunities.”
The Waterson Way request for expressions of interest will be marketed nationally and is currently on www.lgtenderbox.com.au.
