Whitsunday Regional Council is reminding dog owners to make sure their dogs are appropriately secured to prevent them becoming distressed by the fireworks at the upcoming Proserpine and Bowen Shows.
Deputy Mayor John Collins said that the fireworks can be very distressing for dogs with many finding a way to escape their yards to get away from the noise.
“Each year, Council’s Local Laws Officers receive numerous complaints about distressed dogs on the run after the fireworks so we just want to make people aware of their responsibility to care for their pets, “Cr Collins said.
“Pet owners in Proserpine and Bowen should ensure their dogs are tied up or taken inside to prevent them from jumping fences, running away and getting further distressed.”
To report missing or stray dogs please call Council’s Local Law Officers on 4945 0200.
