Whitsunday Regional Council has voted unanimously to approve a sponsorship arrangement with the not-for-profit RACQ CQ Rescue Service.
Mayor Andrew Willcox said Council was proud to provide $50,000 in funding to the RACQ CQ Rescue Service, which provides emergency, aeromedical and helicopter search and rescue services to residents, workers and visitors in Central Queensland communities.
“Council is committed to partnering with emergency service providers, government agencies and recovery authorities to ensure effective resource planning, and we’re delighted to be able to show our support for the RACQ CQ Rescue Service, which makes an invaluable contribution to our community,” Cr Willcox said.
“Over the next year, this vital service is expected to carry out over 500 missions between Rockhampton and Townsville, with approximately 46 per cent of those being in the Whitsunday Region,” he said.
“It costs around $8.3 million each year to keep the RACQ CQ Rescue aircraft operational and the crew fully equipped, on standby, and ready to attend to emergency events, so Council is certainly proud to be coming on board as an official sponsor.”
