Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor Jenny Whitney warmly welcomes Angelina Jolie and Brad Pittto the beautiful Whitsunday region for the filming of scenes for the movie Unbroken.
“Whitsunday Regional Council has been working hard behind the scenes to secure the filming ofsome scenes for this movie here in the Whitsunday region,” Mayor Whitney said.
“Working with Screen Queensland and the Queensland Government, the Council has built a strong relationship which has led to Angelina Jolie filming here.
“We worked hard last year to secure a Temporary Local Planning Instrument, so Brad Pitt’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea could be filmed here and through that process a relationship was formed which has led to Unbroken being filmed in the Whitsunday region.
“Council was able to help with securing a location for filming for Unbroken and worked through the Council approval process necessary to shoot here.
“This shoot has resulted in more than 130 extra people in town over the next few days injectingabout $1 million into the local economy.
“It shows just three days after a cyclonic event the Whitsunday region is truly open for business.
“Everywhere that Angelina and Brad go they attract international media attention, so it is wonderful to have the focus on our spectacular region.
"Having the Whitsunday region appear in a Hollywood blockbuster movie will also be a great boost for the regions tourism for years to come, as we have had with previous movies filmed here.
“It shows again that the Whitsunday Regional Council is a film friendly location.
“We are glad the sun has come out for their visit after last week’s cyclone and I hope Angelina and Brad have an excellent stay in the gorgeous Whitsunday region.”
