Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor Andrew Willcox would like to thank the hard working and dedicated volunteers throughout the Whitsunday Region as part of this week’s National Volunteer Week celebrations.
Mayor Willcox said that volunteers make an enormous contribution to all facets of the community and we should acknowledge them for dedication and enthusiasm.
“I would like to thank the people in our community who selflessly spend their time and share their skills for the benefit of the others,” Cr Willcox said.
“Volunteer work is an essential part of any community; it encourages friendships between strangers and friends and helps to build an inclusive society,” he said.
“This week we are hosting special morning teas at our Bowen and Cannonvale libraries to show our appreciation for the 15 volunteers who spend time there.
“We are extremely fortunate to have these people as part of our library teams and we welcome anyone else who is interested in becoming a volunteer.
“On behalf of the Whitsunday Regional Council, I would like to thank all of the volunteers across the region and I encourage the community to thank your local volunteers and let them know their efforts are appreciated.”
The volunteer’s morning tea will be held on Thursday the 12th May at the Cannonvale Library and Friday the 13th May at the Bowen Library.
There are currently 12 volunteers in the Bowen library, 3 in the Cannonvale library and 2 new volunteers soon to commence at the Proserpine library.
