Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor and Chair of the Whitsunday Disaster Management Group
Jenny Whitney is urging all residents across the Whitsunday local government area to stay away
from all foreshore areas.
“Police are patrolling the foreshore areas and urging residents to keep away for safety reasons,”
Mayor Whitney said.
“This morning’s high-tide, at 10am in Bowen and 11am in Airlie Beach will see inundation of the
Bowen, Airlie Beach, Cannonvale beach and Shute Harbour foreshores
“Residents are asked to please avoid these areas until the high tide recedes around midday.
“Residents in Airlie Beach, Cannonvale and Shute Harbour are also urged to conserve their water use until further notice,” she said.
