Whitsunday Regional Council will temporarily close the Bowen Water Park from 7.00am to 3.00pm on Tuesday 23 February to allow for the soft fall ground surface to be cleaned.
Acting Chief Executive Officer Barry Omundson said that while the ground surface at the Bowen Water Park receives a twice-weekly pressure clean, hot and wet conditions continue to provide the perfect breeding ground for mould.
“The occurrence of mould is not uncommon at water parks across North Queensland with the Water Park at Townsville experiencing similar issues,” Mr Omundson said.
“Council staff will be using liquid chlorine to help loosen a build-up of mould and algae that has accumulated on the surface of the soft fall, before scrubbing the surface and using a pressure cleaner for the final washing of the surface,” he said.
“In addition, Council staff will also clean the play equipment and other infrastructure located within the park such as seating.”
“Next week Council will be exploring options to modify the running times for the water park to reduce the ability for mould to colonise on the surface and save on overall costs associated with electricity and chemicals.”
The Bowen Water Park will re-open to the general public at 8.00am on Wednesday 24 February 2016.
