Whitsunday Regional Council has entered caretaker period, following the formal notice of election being issued by the Electoral Commission of Queensland (ECQ) on Saturday, 6 February.
Acting Chief Executive Officer Barry Omundson said that Council would adhere to the caretaker period provisions of the Local Government Act 2009 during the six weeks prior to the elections.
“Although the State Government has made clear for some time that the elections would be held on Saturday, 19 March, the caretaker period doesn’t officially commence until the notice of election is issued,” Mr Omundson said.
“As we have now entered caretaker period, Council will avoid any actions or decisions which conflict with the caretaker period provisions of the Local Government Act 2009,” he said.
Mr Omundson encouraged residents to familiarise themselves with the new boundaries of the Whitsunday Region’s six electoral divisions.
“The ECQ undertook a redistribution of divisional boundaries last year, and there have been significant changes to the size and composition of each of our six divisions,” he said.
“We encourage all residents to view the new divisional maps and to make sure their voting enrolment details are up to date.”
Maps of the new divisional boundaries can be viewed on Council’s website at www.whitsundayrc.qld.gov.au or in person at any of Council’s customer service centres.
