The development of Whitsunday Regional Council’s proposed draft Planning Scheme is ongoing, with submissions yet to be formally presented to Council for its determination.
Submissions closed on Friday 16 October 2015.
Mayor Whitney said six local community groups were invited to address Council directly and talk over the concerns raised in their submissions with Councillors and members of the Executive Management Team.
“These groups were invited because they had raised concerns regarding the proposed height limits in the draft Whitsunday Regional Council Planning Scheme and, as a collective, Councillors were of the view that this would be an appropriate forum for us to discuss their concerns further,” Mayor Whitney said.
“Of the six groups invited, three groups, namely the Whitsunday Regional Residents Association, Save Our Foreshore and Fight for Airlie, declined late in the process the opportunity to meet with Council,” she said.
“We are pleased that the Whitsunday Ratepayers Association, Golden Orchard Drive representatives and the Whitsunday Coast Chamber of Commerce took up the opportunity to speak with Council.”
Council’s Planning and Environment Department anticipates presenting a report for Council’s consideration at the Ordinary Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, 25 November 2015.
