The recent State Government Trade Mission to China and Japan, led by the Premier and attended by Mayor Cr Jennifer Whitney has continued to lay the platform for Bowen’s Horticultural sector to grow into these markets.
Key events, briefings and meetings attended by our Mayor, specifically in Tokyo - Japan, focusing upon the agricultural sector were:
- JAEPA Agricultural Investment Seminar, with the Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi
- Queensland Food Promotion Show Case, with the Iron Chef
- Numerous meetings with Agricultural Investors and Importers, facilitated by Trade and Invest Queensland
Mayor Cr Jennifer Whitney said that attending the events, briefings and meetings, continued on from the work undertaken last year by Bowen growers and the Chamber of Commerce.
“Bowen as a high value and high quality horticultural growing area was particularly well known in Japan, the work undertaken over the last 12 months by our growers has begun to forge strong relationships that will grow as our trade opportunities and improved access begins to open up our region.”
“We have developed a strong relationship with Takeshi Adachi, Trade & Investment Commissioner of Japan and we will continue to welcome the interest and opportunities from Japanese investors.”
