Whitsunday households, schools and community groups are set to join hundreds of thousands of people across the country on Saturday 24 October as a part of the fifth annual Garage Sale Trail.
An award-winning community and sustainability event, Garage Sale Trail is powered by over 150 local councils and is expecting over 10,000 garage sales to be held across the country.
Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor, Jenny Whitney has welcomed the involvement of the Whitsundays and the unique opportunity to promote reuse and community building in a fun and creative way.
“The Whitsunday Regional Council is proud to again be actively involved in bringing this national initiative to our residents. Garage Sale Trail helps people to think creatively about how we can reuse items that might otherwise be put out for waste collection and possibly end up in landfill,” Mayor Whitney said.
“Garage Sale Trail is a fun and social way to get to know your neighbours and connect with the broader community whilst raising money for yourself or others. It’s a grassroots event that has swept across the country, so we’re pleased to be a part of something bigger that’s making some positive change. ”
Garage Sale Trail takes place on Saturday 24 October and all households, local organisations, schools, community groups and charities can register via garagesaletrail.com.au
Registration is free and you can create your own sale or join the Whitsunday Regional Council Garage Sales at one of the four locations across the region. There’s also a whole swag of tips and tools available to help sellers promote their sales locally. Those who register before the 25th of September will receive a seller pack with lots of goodies to ensure a successful garage sale.
“Now is the time to pencil Saturday 24 October into your diary and prepare for a fun day of buying and selling. Who knows what treasures you might come across?”
