Whitsunday Regional Council is conducting further consultation on the new Whitsunday RegionalCouncil Planning Scheme through a series of public meetings across the region.
Council’s Mayor Jenny Whitney said that the public meetings follow on from communityconsultation around the corporate plan and the strategic direction of the draft planning scheme.The Public Meetings will be held as follows:

“Council is committed to undertaking significant consultation with the Whitsunday community and stakeholders throughout the process of preparing the draft planning scheme,
“This has so far included consulting with over 900 people during the through various workshops,community surveys, telephone surveys and meetings with key stakeholders,
“These public meetings are an opportunity to receive feedback from members of our communityand to engage with them about how the planning scheme may impact upon them,” Mayor Whitney said.
Council is developing the draft planning scheme in order to move towards a consistent approach to managing development and growth providing for a prosperous, liveable and sustainable region building on the integration of the unique attributes and competitive advantage of each of the regions towns.
Since the local government amalgamations in 2008, Council has operated with two planningschemes to manage land use planning, development and infrastructure delivery for the region;the Bowen Shire Planning Scheme 2006 and Whitsunday Shire Planning Scheme 2009.
Mayor Jenny Whitney said that the implementation of a single planning scheme for the wholeregion will streamline development approvals and address out of date provisions in the existing two schemes.
“Community consultation is an integral part of the planning process and we encourage allinterested parties to consider attending these public meetings,”
“Public meeting attendees will have the opportunity to meet one on one with Whitsunday Regional Council Strategic Planners, to ask questions and be informed,” Mayor Whitney said.

Council aims to have the new Whitsunday Regional Council Planning Scheme completed and inplace by early 2016.
