Council has been working with landowners to demolish structurally unsound buildings within the Whitsunday Region. Recently two buildings have been demolished in Bowen & Collinsville after a prolonged legal compliance & negotiation process with the owners.
Further compliance action has also been undertaken by Council to demolish a structurally unsound building in Sinclair Street, Bowen.
Council’s Planning and Community Director, Mr Dan Staley said ‘the enforcement notice required the owners to comply within specified timeframes as set out under the building legislation’.
‘In this instance the owners had until mid-June 2015 to comply with this notice but have failed to make application for the appropriate approvals in commencing the demolition of the building. “
Mr Staley said that Council will now undertake the demolition work with the procurement of suitably qualified contractors to be finalised by next Tuesday the 30th of June and works to commence soon thereafter.
