Whitsunday Regional Council yesterday received two historic wrought iron bench seats from Queensland Rail (QR) as a donation of thanks for Council’s participation in Queensland Rails’ recent 150th year celebrations.
Mayor Jenny Whitney said one seat will be located at the Bowen Queensland Rail Institute and one seat will be located outside the Proserpine Museum.
“On the 1st of February this year, Council welcomed the Queensland Rail steam train to both Proserpine and Bowen as part of QR’s 150 year celebrations,” she said.
“Whitsunday Regional Council hosted welcome events in both towns to celebrate this milestone, which were very well attended by members of the local community.
“These bench seats are being gifted by QR as a thank you to Council for participating in their celebrations.
“The bench seats are made of wrought iron from 100 years ago and only a few towns in Queensland have been selected by Queensland Rail to receive them.
“Council is pleased to be able to receive these seats and locate them at historical societies in both Bowen and Proserpine where they can be appropriately appreciated,” she said.
