Whitsunday Regional Council today resolved to provide $5,000 to support Bowen State School’s150th anniversary celebrations.
Mayor Jenny Whitney said Bowen State School will be holding a fete on Saturday 6th June tocelebrate 150 years of the school’s operation and requested financial assistance from Council for the event.
“Council is pleased to be able to provide $5,000 in financial support to assist with cementingapproximately 200 pavers in the courtyard, replacing an old cement table and chairs, adding apathway, additional seating, and the purchase of 15 pavers for the school logo and signagereferring to the 150th anniversary,” she said.
“Bowen State School opened on 2 April 1865 and is considered the oldest school in Queenslandnorth of Gladstone.
“It is fitting that Council provide financial support to help Bowen State School have a successful150th anniversary celebration.
“In return for the financial support Council will be acknowledged for their contribution through arange of marketing products associated with the event,” she said.
