Whitsunday Regional Council today resolved to donate the application fees and provide in-kindsupport for the 2015 Bowen Family Fishing Classic and Wet Weekend to be held 19-20thSeptember.
Mayor Jenny Whitney said every year this event attracts large crowds to the Whitsunday regionwho enjoy the fishing, family fun and top class entertainment at the Bowen Soundshell and frontbeach.
“In its 24th year we know the Bowen Family Fishing Classic and Wet Weekend will be a wonderful event for the whole community to enjoy and Council is pleased to be able to provide a donation and support, for the fourth year in a row, to help make the event a success,” she said.
“As part of our support, Council will waive the hire fee for the foreshore area, including the bond for the Bowen Soundshell.
“Council will also provide traffic speed limit signage, traffic barricades, portable lights, leads andsub boards for the duration of events.
“Permission will also be given for temporary advertising signage for the event on the BowenCouncil chambers.
“Council parks and garden crews will provide staff to assist with setting up and dismantling of theevent tents.
“Council staff will also ensure the surrounding areas at the front beach are clear of debris and litter prior to the event.
“We are pleased to support a community event which is always a great tourism and economicboost for the town of Bowen,” she said.
