Whitsunday Regional Council today resolved to provide $5,000 in gold level sponsorship for theGem of the Coral Coast Festival held from Friday 31st October to Sunday 2nd November in Bowen.
Mayor Jenny Whitney said it has been seven years since the festival was last held, but it isshaping up to be a great community event for Bowen and the surrounding areas.
“The $5,000 in funding Council is providing to the Gem of the Coral Coast Festival comes on top of Council already waiving the $874 major event fee for the festival, at the request of Tourism Bowen,” she said.
“Council has agreed to provide the further funding of $5,000 in gold level sponsorship for thefestival due to the long period of time since the last festival was held, this is the largest amount of sponsorship which can be provided and gives Council naming rights of one of the major events in the festival.
“Whitsunday Regional Council is pleased to be able to help the Gem of the Coral Coast Festivalre-establish itself as a great Bowen community event.
“The festival will include a parade, food fiesta, festival queens, festival ball talent quest, fireworksand many other family and community orientated activities.
“Funds raised through these activities will be donated to community charities and\or projects which enhance the local community.
“Tourism Bowen has requested sponsorship to assist them with successfully restoring this eventback to Bowen and the surrounding communities.
“Tourism Bowen has advised that they are hoping to secure grant funding for future events, butdue to restricted time frames this year they require the support of the local community to assist with the success of this event.
“The Whitsunday Regional Council has also provided sponsorship and support for a number offestivals in Bowen this year including the Bowen Fishing Classic and the Bowen Superboats,” she said.
