At last week’s Council meeting, Whitsunday Regional Council adopted a new policy for Concealed
Water Leakage.
Mayor Whitney said this is a reviewed policy for water supply in circumstances where a water leak has occurred on private property and a resident is applying for a concession from the Council.
“The new policy is designed to make it easier for those applying for a concealed water leak
concession from Council by clearing up the responsibilities of ratepayers and Council,” she said.
“The new policy requires evidence of the location of the leaking pipe, the description of the type of pipe, age, depth and type of repair required, including photographs of the site and the damaged section of pipe.
“The new policy also gives details of situations where a remission on the water consumption costs will not be granted.
“Residents are reminded that the responsibility rests with the property owner for all charges for
water passing through the meter and for maintenance and repair of the water service beyond the
meter within the property.
“Owners are encouraged to check their water meters regularly to determine the amount of water
being consumed so that rectification steps can be taken in instances where increased water
consumption becomes evident,” she said.
