Whitsunday Regional Council is seeking volunteers for the 2014 Whitsunday Schoolies which willrun from Saturday 22 November to Wednesday 26 November 2014.
Whitsunday Schoolies is a five day safety response which is expected to attract over 2000 young people to the region.
Mayor Jenny Whitney said the Whitsunday Schoolies program aims to provide supervised,structured activities for Year 12 school leavers to have fun, act responsibly and most importantlystay safe.
“The Schoolies Advisory Committee needs the support of the local community to once again hold a safe and successful Schoolies Safety Response Program for young people visiting our region,” Mayor Whitney said.
“Volunteers are required for a range of duties including assistance at the Registration and Chill Out Zones.
“The Registration area is open most days from 8am until midnight and the Chill Out serviceoperates from 7pm to 2am each night during Schoolies to provide a safe place for school leavers to access assistance and support.
“To provide a safe yet fun atmosphere it takes a team of people and I encourage anyone who can, to give up some of their valuable time to help keep our Schoolies celebrations safe.
“Any time commitment people can offer will be much appreciated by the Schoolies AdvisoryCommittee.
“I would like to thank the Queensland Police Service, SES, Red Frogs, CHOICES, schools, service groups, accommodation providers and local venues for their ongoing assistance and coordination of the annual Whitsunday Schoolies celebrations,” she said.
The Registration Zone involves checking school Id’s, collecting registration fees and providingreceipts whereas the Chill out Tent volunteers assist by providing first aid, offering support andmaking the Schoolies feel comfortable.
All volunteers must possess a current Working with Children Positive Notice Blue Card.
