The 2014-15 Budget adopted by the Whitsunday Regional Council today includes just over $5.3
million in road maintenance and upgrade programs across the region.
Mayor Jenny Whitney said the $5.3 million will be spent on much needed road upgrades including road reconstructions, addressing black spots, improving drainage and resheeting cane roads.
“The black spot intersection at Leichardt and Livingstone streets, Bowen has been identified by the Federal Government to be upgraded to a roundabout, Council has committed $280,000 to
commence this project,” Mayor Whitney said.
“$632,000 is being provided to concrete the problematic causeway on the Strathmore Road
Collinsville.
“The Gregory River Bridge will be repaired thanks to a commitment of $400,000.
“Just over $956,000 will help upgrade the drainage and pedestrian crossing at Hinschen Street,
Proserpine.
“Coral Esplanade between Beach Road and Cannonvale State School will be reconstructed
costing $250,000.
“$910,000 has also been provided for the resheeting of cane roads and preventative
maintenance/resealing of roads across the entire Whitsunday region,” she said.
Mayor Whitney said despite Council’s main priority being focused on paying down debt the $16.2million capital work program includes much needed road upgrades, water and sewerage
infrastructure improvements and some community projects across the entire region.
