Council is inviting submissions from the community following on from its recent review of thecurrent local laws and subordinate local laws.
Local laws and subordinate local laws govern most of Council’s roles and responsibilities including public safety, parking, events, swimming pools, advertising signage, animal control, outdoor dining, overgrown allotments, pests and weeds, and nuisances such as noise and dust.
They are designed to protect and enhance the community amenity of the Whitsunday region.
Mayor Jenny Whitney said one of the key objectives from the Operational Plan was to ensure that the existing local laws and subordinate local laws were consistent with state legislation and will meet future regulatory requirements.
“It is a requirement of all local governments to develop a diverse range of local laws andsubordinate local laws to regulate and control various activities,” she said.
“Through the regulation of activities we can ensure that a high level of local enforcement andcompliance is in place to protect and enhance the lifestyle and wellbeing of our community.”Council is encouraging residents to have a say on the proposed changes and provide writtenfeedback on or before 21 August 2014.
Submissions can only be received in writing and must clearly state the grounds of the submission and any facts or circumstances relied on to justify the submission.
