Council resolved today to provide financial support to two great local community events; the Collinsville Bacon Busters Competition to be held 30th August and the Community Friends National Families Week BBQ held on the 16th May, in Proserpine.
Mayor Jenny Whitney said Council will provide $500 support for the Collinsville Bacon Busters
Competition 2014, being held 30th August.
“Collinsville Bacon Busters Competition, being held at the Collinsville Rodeo Grounds is a family
fun day, which includes a pig hunt, dog auction, ute camp and iron man, woman and kids
competition,” Mayor Whitney said.
“This event is expected to be well patronized, with similar events in North Queensland attracting
more than 200 competitors, plus hundreds of spectators.
“The Bacon Busters Competition is being held by the Collinsville State High School P&C
Association with proceeds raised going to the local Collinsville State High School to support
educational programs and activities.
“Additionally, the funds will also go towards the “buy a bale” campaign to support farmers and
communities in drought,” she said.
Mayor Whitney said Council also refunded the minor event application fee of $120 to assist the
Community Friends Group National Families Week BBQ 2014, held on 16th May, in Pioneer Park, Proserpine.
“The Community Friends group sought the assistance of council to hold National Families Week
celebrations,” Mayor Whitney said.
“The group is a not for profit group which provides support to families whom have had to recover
from suicide. To embrace the importance and value of families, the group held a family BBQ and
entertainment day, last week which was well attended by the local community.
“Council is pleased to be able to assist both these local community organizations in hosting their
events,” she said.
