Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor Jenny Whitney would like to thank the dedicated andpassionate volunteers throughout the Whitsunday region as part of this week’s National Volunteer Week celebrations, May 12-18.
Mayor Whitney said this year is the 25th anniversary of National Volunteer Week and a greatopportunity to celebrate and thank local volunteers for the countless hours they put in to help thelocal community.
“Volunteers make an invaluable contribution to the Whitsunday region through dedicating their time and skills to assist a variety of community organisations,” Mayor Whitney said.
“National Volunteer Week is about recognising the individuals in our community who selflessly give their time for the benefit of others.
“As part of National Volunteer Week, Proserpine Meals on Wheels celebrated their 40thanniversary on the weekend, presenting awards to some of their longest serving volunteers.
“On behalf of the Whitsunday Regional Council, I would like to thank all the volunteers across the whole region that hold our community together and work tirelessly for a wide range of causes.
“If you know of someone or an organisation that volunteers their time for a local cause, take thetime to thank them, this week, and let them know their efforts are appreciated,” she said.
