Whitsunday Regional Council is currently undertaking repairs to the significant damage recently caused to Strathmore Road.
The road was closed at 7am yesterday to allow Council’s roads crews to assess and determine what urgent repair work is required to restore the road to an acceptable standard for public use.
Council did not make the road closure decision lightly and our priority will always be the safety of our residents and council staff.
The high increase in heavy traffic on Strathmore Road over recent months has caused the road to deteriorate to a state which causes a potential danger to public safety.
Currently the initial focus of council crews is on the major areas of damage.
Council’s roads engineers have re-established public access along Strathmore Road, under strict traffic management.
If further deterioration occurs while Strathmore Road is under traffic management, then further temporary road closures may be required.
Council is aware that closure of Strathmore Road has caused traffic disruptions however public safety and the safety of all road users is always our priority.
