A new set of community inspired projects will shape the town’s future direction after council today adopted the Proserpine Sustainability and Future Growth Master Plan.
Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor Andrew Willcox said the plan’s adoption was a commitment to the Proserpine community that their ideas and projects would be brought to life.
“Council will now move forward to implement these projects with proper planning and future budget allocations.
“This Master Plan is an exciting step toward making Proserpine an even stronger regional town within the Whitsunday Region.
“These community inspired projects will work to further shape future the growth and sustainability of the town,” he said
Division 3 Councillor John Collins said five key themes were identified in the Master Plan.“From those key themes a total of 13 major projects have been recommended,” he said.
“The key areas for growth include activating Lake Proserpine, Water Park and Pool upgrades, improved parks and tourist facilities and upgrades to the Main Street precinct.
“There is no doubt that the challenges presented by Cyclone Debbie and devastation left in her wake have been a significant setback for many as we continue with recovery efforts to return to business as usual.
“And whilst this Plan is not a solution to fix all, it will be a catalyst for renewed energy, appeal and sustainable growth for the Proserpine area,” Cr Collins said.
