Whitsunday Regional Council today authorised $20,000 in funding by way of sponsorship and in-kind support for two local festivals, the Bowen Offshore Power Boats Event and the 2014Whitsunday Reef Festival.
Mayor Jenny Whitney said she is very pleased to support these two festivals which foster tourism and economic development in the Whitsunday region.
“Council will give $5,000 by way of sponsorship for the Bowen Offshore Power Boats Event and a further $5,000 in-kind support in the waiving of fees and charges for the event,” Mayor Whitneysaid.
“The Bowen Offshore Power Boats Event will be held on the 21-22 June and will also include astreet party on Herbert and Powell Street, to display the power boats and hold market stalls.
“Council will also give $5,000 by way of sponsorship towards the 2014 Whitsunday Reef Festivaland a further $5,000 in-kind support in the waiving of fees and charges for the event.
“The Reef Festival runs from 1-7 August and encompasses a large number of events over theweek long period.
“Both are great local festivals which will help inject tourism money into the local economy and also provide a great day out for many locals.
“Council is happy to offer the $20,000 worth of support to help make both these festivals a greatsuccess,” she said.
