Whitsunday Regional Council will be implementing a standard process region-wide for any person who is constructing a new driveway, or undertaking upgrades to an existing driveway on the Council road reserve.
From 1 May 2017, Council will require a permit to undertake any residential, rural, commercial and industrial driveway works.
The need for a permit is to ensure all driveways and entries are consistent and to approved standards of height and width.
This process does not change any existing obligation on persons constructing driveways to ensure the correct standards are met when undertaking works.
Council is seeking to regulate the construction process to ensure the correct standards are being used for this activity in the interests of community safety.
The new regulations are now in place, and Council will continue to roll out information about the change over the next 12 months.
To fill out an application form and receive a permit for driveway works, contact Council’s Engineering Department directly on (07) 4761 3600 or find out more online at Council’s website.
