The Cyclone Recovery Industry Forum held at the Proserpine Entertainment Centre last week proved popular with over 250 people attending.
Proserpine Chamber of Commerce and the Whitsunday Coast Chamber of Commerce partnered with Whitsunday Regional Council to provide information for regional business stakeholders.
Whitsunday Regional Council Executive Officer Economic Development, Melanie Davies said the forum provided an overview for businesses and direct access to 17 organisations and agencies.
“These groups and agencies presented a range of initiatives and programs available to assist and allow business owners to take the first steps to getting back to business,” Ms Davies said.
“The initiative was a recommended outcome from the Local Government Economic Recovery Subgroup which is chaired by Councillor Mike Brunker,” she said.
“It was great to see such a strong turnout and attendees heard from the key banks in respect to how they could access additional funding or defer payments, grant funding available through the Category C NDRRA and a number of other critical issues that are currently affecting the business community.
“The presentations were deliberately short and sharp and focused on steering people to the help available online or through free-call numbers.”
The Economic Recovery Sub Group is one of four which fall under the Local recovery Group chaired by Deputy Mayor John Collins.
Other subgroups are Human Social Subgroup (Chair: Cr Ron Petterson), Infrastructure Subgroup (Chair: Cr Dave Clark) and the Environment Subgroup (Chair: Cr Jan Clifford).
