Stage 2 – Re-opening of Facilities
Stage 2 of the Queensland Government's 'Roadmap to Easing Restrictions' was implemented from midday 1 June 2020.
Your health and safety is our priority and it is important that we continue to practice good hygiene and abide by social distancing rules.
Government guidelines require gatherings to be limited to up to 20 people from 1 June, and 100 people from 10 July, to be reviewed based on COVID SAFE check points.
Please note that unlimited travel and overnight stays are permitted for all of Queensland (including school holidays) anywhere in Queensland.
All guidelines are subject to any further changes in restrictions issued by the Queensland Government.
Please note that you are required to shower with soap at home before and after swimming. No spectators are permitted except for up to one parent/carer per child if necessary. Community showers and change rooms remain closed however toilet facilities will be re-opened.
Airlie Beach Lagoon
Open from Saturday 16 May 2020. Whitsunday Regional Council has received an approval from the Queensland Government for an exemption to the current 20 person gathering rule at the Airlie Beach Lagoon.
Council’s approved COVID SAFE Plan allows for a maximum of 50 people in the lagoon and 50 people in the parklands at any given time. This includes parents/carers that are supervising their children in the water.
We encourage you to be considerate of others that may be waiting to enter the lagoon. For those wanting to enjoy the sunshine or have a picnic to catch up with family and friends in gatherings of up to 10 people, we encourage you to visit other recreation areas such as local beaches or the Airlie Foreshore.
Bowen Swimming Pool
Open for lap swimming and exercise only, recreational swimming not permitted. Numbers are limited to 20 people as per government guidelines (Stage 2 commenced 1 June 2020).
Bowen Water Park
The slides at the Bowen Water Park are currently being repaired. This facility will re-open on Thursday 15 June 2020.
Collinsville Swimming Pool
Remaining closed for its annual seasonal closure. The facility will re-open on Tuesday 1 September 2020.
Proserpine Swimming Pool
Open for lap swimming and exercise only, recreational swimming not permitted. Numbers limited to 20 people as per government guidelines (Stage 2 commenced 1 June 2020).
Proserpine Water Park
Open with numbers limited to 20 people as per government guidelines (Stage 2 commenced 1 June 2020). One person per slide at a time.

As of Monday 18 May 2020, Libraries across the region re-opened with limited services. Residents are welcome to borrow books and use the computer facilities for a 30-minute period.
As of midday on 2 June 2020, 20 people are permitted to enter the library at once as per government guidelines. Home-delivery and children’s programs will resume at a later stage.
In addition to the Whitsunday Regional Libraries fantastic range of free online resources such as ebooks, audio books, movies, and magazines, virtual library sessions such as story-time, baby bounce and maker-moments will continue on Council’s Facebook page.

As of Saturday 16 May 2020, Parks, BBQ’s, playground equipment, skate parks and outdoor gyms across the region were opened and as of 1 June 2020, numbers for gatherings has increased to 20 people as per government guidelines .
Members of the public are welcome to visit Lake Proserpine to have a picnic or conduct activities such as swimming, boating, skiing and fishing. Gatherings of up to 20 people are permitted and 72-hour free camping is now permitted as per government guidelines (Stage 2 commenced 1 June 2020).
Caravan & RV Parks
From midday 1 June 2020, Queenslanders will be able to travel anywhere in Queensland. The Wangaratta at the Beach Caravan Park in Bowen and the Proserpine Tourist Park are now open to the public. There are restrictions in place and all new arrivals shall be given a document outlining conditions of entry, requirements and safety procedures put in place to hep make your stay safe.
From 8am Tuesday 2 June 2020, the RV Parks in Proserpine and Collinsville will also be open to visitors.
