Whitsunday Regional Council’s asset management framework has been developed to ensure that the Council manages assets in a sustainable and affordable manner for the current and future generations. Council is the custodian of approximately $1.3 billion (replacement value) of community assets, which enable Council to deliver essential infrastructure and local government services to the community. The assets includes roads, drains, footpaths, community facilities, recreational facilities, parks and gardens, waste facilities and water and sewerage networks.
Whitsunday Regional Council has adopted an asset management policy which prescribes how asset management is to be utilised by Council. The development of an Asset Management Strategy directs a structured set of strategies aimed at enabling Council to improve its asset management practices in line with Council's Community Plan and Corporate Plan. Combined with establishing asset management plans for each asset class, including 10 year forecasts, these documents will provide Council with a set of comprehensive information and a framework to assist both short and long-term service delivery planning.
The total replacement value of Council’s assets is $1.3 billion with a written down value of $1.0 billion. Annual depreciation for Council’s assets totals $23 million.
