The Whitsunday Disaster Coordination Centre number is 1300 972 006.

This number is only operational when the Centre has been officially opened by the Whitsunday Disaster Management Group.  Whitsunday Regional Council will advise the public when this has occurred.

Disaster Management Plan
The Whitsunday Disaster Management Plan has been prepared to assist the Whitsunday Disaster Management Group (WDMG) in the preparation of mitigation measures to protect the community and community assets by the prevention of, preparedness for, response to and recovery from one or a combination of the identified natural disasters which may impact all or part of the Whitsunday Region.  The document is available for download below.

Guardian Control Centre 
Guardian Control Centre is the most widely selected program throughout Australia for managing a multi-agency response to a disaster of any scale with minimal dependencies.

Guardian was developed right here in the Whitsunday’s by QIT Plus and Whitsunday Regional Council is proud to be a host site for Guardian Control Centre.

Guardian Control Centre has been in use by the Whitsunday Regional Council since 2007 and members of our staff and community have contributed ideas and suggestions used in the development of this software. Guardian is now used by the majority of Queensland Local Governments.

Guardian Control Centre was put into full operation for the co-ordination of the multi-agency response to Cyclone Ului in 2010 as it crossed the Whitsunday coast as a Severe Category 3 Tropical Cyclone with winds in excess of 200 km per hour. Guardian has since been used several times in response to more recent cyclone events.

Staff with years of experience in Disaster Co-ordination have praised the performance of Guardian in assisting them to efficiently manage requests for assistance, allocation of resources, activation of support centres, capturing bulletins and mapping all jobs and road closures for operators to view.

"Guardian has really taken the pressure off and reduced stress levels due to efficient operations. The big difference for our field operations was that we didn't send our resources out to tasks that had already been completed."
